Dark days

These darkest of days
I’ve seen
The bottom of the barrel
The dirt beneath the floor
I’ve dug deep

These darkest of days
I’ve wallowed
Floundered
Down there on the bottom
Beneath the floor board
I’ve dug deep

Deeper still in my soul
Where I think the darkness lie
I cannot help but search
An answer why
I dig deep

Where floor boards lie
Holes and cracks shine bright
Forcing my soul into the light
Shining in the deep

Faint but bright
My light
I’ve dug so deep
Searching out there
Through cracks of light
Instead of inside

Faint is the light
It still shines bright
In spite of the soil
